♥ Home Run 1991 ♥

Note on soap magazine publication dates and content of articles/interviews regarding multiple soap stars: Many of the monthly or every other month (and sometimes quarterly) magazines back in the 1980's would be on the newsstands a long time before the date on the actual magazine. We've noticed, for instance, that DAYTIME TV magazine did an interview with Drake in late 1986 about his upcoming wedding, which was scheduled for December 1986, yet the interview didn't appear until the July 1987 issue several months later. Therefore, it might be a bit confusing to read about his "upcoming" wedding in an interview dated July 1987 when you happen to know he was married in December 1986. We've tried to date the articles to match the date on the magazine, regardless of when the events talked about took place. Hopefully it will make sense as you go along!

We've also edited some of the articles/interviews to just include John's storyline, since this is a Drake/John website. We've left out comments and sections about other actors or storylines unless they're involved with John's storyline. This too should be very apparent and clear when we've done that so it makes sense and you don't have to skim through a long article to find the "John parts."

Golden Moments For August
Roman And Marlena's Reunion
On DAYS

Best Of The Best:

The biggest event on daytime during August had to be the reunion of DAYS' Roman (or the guy who thinks he's Roman, played by Drake Hogestyn) and his wife, Marlena (Deidre Hall), who had been presumed dead for more than four years. When Roman left the party for his engagement to Isabella (Staci Greason) and followed a mysterious set of footprints to the fog-enshrouded pier, fans knew what was coming. And they were not disappointed.

Actually, that's not quite true. East Coast DAYS' viewers were disappointed, not by the reunion itself but by the fact that they missed most of it. Since the Soviet Union doesn't have soaps (yet), the Soviets didn't realize the importance of August 19 and they decided to stage a coup. Of course, news of this international magnitude takes precedence over soaps, even an episode fans have been waiting years to see. Then came Hurricane Bob, demanding constant attention. Once DAYS finally made it back on the air, the reunion was over and Roman and Marlena just sat around her seedy hotel room trying to figure out where she'd been all these years.

But for those who did catch the reunion, it was quite a moving event. When Roman saw Marlena, he gasped, "It is you," and embraced her tightly. Even the non-DAYS fans in our office had tears in their eyes. And the repercussions of Marlena's return are endless. Roman has to deal with the love he feels for both his wife and Isabella. The twins have to give up the woman they've grown to love as their new mom and get to know the mom they never knew. And the Bradys have to accept yet another relative returning from the dead. As if all this wasn't enough, now we've found out that Roman isn't really Roman! (The Wayne Northrop Roman is the real one; Hogestyn's Roman is a fake.)
